Strategic & reactive consulting

Preliminary strategic development is often key to the successful completion of many projects. We provide insightful input to the preparatory stages to ensure that full information is gathered and interrogated. This fundamental decision-support information and its evaluation are essential to ensure intelligent and fully informed choices can be made. For example, we have specialist waste forecasting capability and extensive experience in this field that can be used for both operational and financial purposes.

However, even with most careful preparation unforeseen project issues can arise - problems, delays, queries. With so many aspects to address, even the best managed projects can encounter such challenges. These can lead to costly time and budget overruns. We offer a first response surgery service to promptly and effectively address specific waste or environmental management issues. This is available on a fixed fee basis and we will work with your existing team and support specialists. We can also provide tactical assistance, including support and liaison with the regulatory authorities.

Strategic consulting

A selected range of specialist value-based technical consultancy services offered to inform the initial stages of a project, including conceptual development. Strategic development and refinement is a core competency together with data gathering, analysis and interpretation. Typical skills of interest may include: gap analysis, BPEO assessment, waste forecasting, contract clause assessment, independent technical and compliance performance review, site walkover inspections and independent assurance audits.

Surgery service

Offered on a "call-in" basis, we can provide a cost-effective quick turnaround service to address many immediate or otherwise pressing issues you may have. This service is offered to provide you with ready access to the correct up-to-date information at the time you need it. This could vary from a telephone or Skype-based consultation to submission of a short briefing note. Please don't hesitate to contact us should you need a rapid answer to a waste or environmental management question.

Waste Facilities Capacity and Compliance Assessment

Undertaking an independent compliance assessment against local and national legislation of a suite of waste management facilities in South-western Africa was the core focus for this project. The upcoming amendments to regulations dictate "zero discharge to sea", meaning that the waste facilities used to treat wastes from offshore oil extraction activities had to have the capacity and capability to deal with an increase in waste quantities. Municipal Site Redevelopment Masterplanning

The potential redevelopment of a depot to incorporate a state-of-the-art Materials Reclamation Facility (MRF) to treat municipal wastes was the main aspect of this project. The site appraisal included reviewing a number of services that are currently based at the depot, along with forecasting the future municipal waste arisings, and therefore the required capacity of a new waste transfer facility. Training, education & development

Waste and environmental management encompasses many technical disciplines and requires a broad understanding of scientific as well as business and managerial principles. The transition to the circular economy and the need to make further decisive steps toward sustainable development objectives mean that the profession is more demanding than ever. Attaining and maintaining competence is equally challenging and with ever more complex legislative requirements, regulatory knowledge is crucial. We offer a range of training approaches, including one-2-one mentoring and bespoke classroom training courses.

Bespoke in-house packages

Bespoke training courses are a highly effective means of upskilling and competency enhancement especially where there are other objectives e.g. teambuilding. This training offers a number of benefits to those organisations who opt for this approach, significantly the opportunity to develop the course material using experiences taken from the organisation itself rather than generic sector examples. Additionally, this training approach can benefit from delivery on your own premises or alternatively at an agreed off-site venue. A specific assessment component can be incorporated to the training package if required.

Standard classroom courses

We can deliver standardised classroom-based training for delivery throughout your organisation. These could vary from introductions to newly emerging issues and regulatory changes to simple but effective refreshers for established teams. These modular courses are most cost-effective and can be delivered at a choice of venue including at our offices. An assessment option can be incorporated into the courses as required. The same CIWM-approved trainers in our team with international experience deliver these courses making this option a highly effective approach.
